Description:

The Flight Instructor oral is the longest checkride oral in civilian aviation. The Multi-Engine rating covers systems and procedures that appear nowhere in earlier training. Preparing for both requires study materials that match the depth each oral exam demands. The Advanced Pilot Progression System includes physical flashcard decks for both ratings, together at a lower price than buying each one separately.

What's Included

  • Flight Instructor Flashcards - 303 cards
  • Multi-Engine Flashcards - 205 cards
  • Multi-Engine Maneuver Mastery Guide (Digital Download)

Bundle price: $129.99
À-la-carte value: $149.97 - you save $19.98.

How It Works

The Flight Instructor deck is built for the most demanding oral exam in general aviation. The CFI oral does not test whether you understand the material, it tests whether you can explain it clearly enough to teach it. The DPE is evaluating your ability to demonstrate instructional knowledge, not just answer questions correctly.

The deck covers FOI, the Fundamentals of Instructing, flight training principles, technical knowledge at the commercial level, scenario-based instruction, and the full range of knowledge areas the CFI ACS requires, including endorsements. It is organized for an applicant who has completed their commercial certificate and is preparing to teach what they know.

The Multi-Engine deck covers the knowledge areas that make the multi-engine oral distinctly different from any previous checkride: Vmc and the factors that affect it, asymmetric thrust and critical engine identification, engine-out procedures and decision-making, accelerate-stop and accelerate-go distances, single-engine service ceiling, and multi-engine systems.

These are topics that require genuine understanding rather than surface familiarity. The deck is built to develop that understanding through active recall, asking questions the same way a multi-engine DPE would ask them, requiring explanation rather than recognition.

Both decks use the same format:

  • Color-coded ACS subject sections, study one topic area at a time, navigate directly to the sections that need the most work
  • New, Review, and Checkride Ready progress dividers, always know where your preparation stands across every subject area
  • One concept per card, direct questions, clear answers written for oral exam performance
  • FAA references on the answer side, exact handbook citations for deeper study
  • CFI-written and reviewed, answers framed for the depth advanced oral exams require

The digital Maneuver Mastery guide included is the Multi-Engine Maneuver Mastery Guide, a separate download focused on multi-engine maneuver procedures, ACS tolerances, and practical preparation for the flight portion of the multi-engine rating. It is not a digital copy of the Multi-Engine flashcard deck.

Who This Is For

  • Commercial pilots pursuing their CFI certificate
  • Commercial pilots adding a multi-engine rating
  • Pilots pursuing both CFI and Multi-Engine at or around the same time
  • Existing Checkride Study Guide customers who own Private, Instrument, and Commercial decks and are completing their collection
  • Career-track pilots approaching the advanced stage of a professional aviation credential path

What the Decks Are Not

These are study preparation tools that supplement FAA publications, qualified flight instructor training, and required ground school. They do not replace CFII/MEI training for CFI applicants, required ground instruction, or any FAA-required study materials. The CFI oral specifically requires substantial preparation with a qualified CFII mentor, these cards are an organized self-study component of that preparation, not a substitute for it.

300+ ACS-mapped flashcards that turn study hours into checkride confidence.

Active recall beats passive review

Each card forces you to produce the answer from memory (not just recognize it). That retrieval signal is what strengthens long-term retention and makes knowledge available under pressure of the oral-exam.

Single-topic cards reduce cognitive load

One concept per card prevents overload, shortens study bursts, and builds proficiency one card at a time.

Will this help beyond PPL (e.g., IFR/Commercial)?

It’s designed for the Private Pilot VFR oral. Some fundamentals carry forward, but you’ll want dedicated IFR/Commercial materials for those checkrides. Please see our other offerings as we offer instrument flashcards with commercial coming soon!
