Description:

Private and Instrument. The two most connected ratings in pilot training, together in one organized study system. The 2 most connected ratings in pilot training, together in one organized study system.

Almost every serious pilot who earns their Private Pilot certificate pursues instrument training next. These two stages follow each other naturally, the VFR knowledge from Private becomes the foundation that IFR knowledge builds on. The Private and Instrument Progression Pack gives you organized physical study materials for both before you need the second one.

What's Included

  • Private Pilot Flashcards - 308 cards
  • Instrument Pilot Flashcards - 250 cards
  • Private Pilot Maneuver Mastery Guide (Digital Download)
  • Instrument Pilot Maneuver Mastery Guide (Digital Download)

Bundle price: $144.99
À-la-carte value: $169.96 - you save $24.97.

How It Works

Two physical flashcard decks. One for the Private Pilot oral. One for the Instrument oral.

The Private Pilot deck covers the VFR knowledge areas tested at the private checkride airspace, weather, aircraft systems, regulations, cross-country navigation, emergency operations, and more. Each card is built for active recall: read the question, put the card down, retrieve the answer from memory before you flip.

The Instrument Pilot deck covers IFR knowledge - holds and hold entries, instrument approaches, weather minimums, lost communication procedures, IFR regulations, alternate requirements, and the subjects that the instrument oral tests in depth. The same active recall format. The same ACS-aligned organization. New knowledge areas, same physical study system.

Every card in both decks follows the same format:

  • Color-coded ACS subject sections - navigate directly to the topic you are working on without sorting through unrelated cards
  • New, Review, and Checkride Ready progress dividers - always know which cards are ready, which need another pass, and which still need work
  • One concept per card - clean, direct questions with clear answers
  • FAA references on the answer side - know exactly where to find deeper reading on any topic
  • CFI-written and reviewed - written for oral exams, not textbook chapters

The two digital Maneuver Mastery guides are separate companion downloads for the flight portion of each rating. They cover maneuver procedures, ACS standards, common errors, and practical preparation. They are not digital copies of the physical flashcard decks.

Who This Is For

  • Student pilots approaching their Private checkride who are already planning for instrument training
  • Newly certificated Private Pilots beginning IFR training
  • Pilots who want organized study materials for both ratings from the start rather than ordering the Instrument deck when IFR training is already underway
  • Gift buyers looking for a study resource that covers the first two major stages of pilot training

What the Decks Are Not

These are study preparation tools. They supplement FAA publications, ground school instruction, and CFI-led training. They do not replace required ground training, instructor endorsements, or FAA-required study materials. If you are planning to continue to Commercial after Instrument, the Private-to-Commercial Study System may offer better overall value.

Learn Faster With Flashcards

300+ ACS-mapped flashcards that turn study hours into checkride confidence.

check_circle
Active recall beats passive review

Each card forces you to produce the answer from memory (not just recognize it). That retrieval signal is what strengthens long-term retention and makes knowledge available under pressure of the oral-exam.

check_circle
Single-topic cards reduce cognitive load

One concept per card prevents overload, shortens study bursts, and builds proficiency one card at a time.

Will this help beyond PPL (e.g., IFR/Commercial)?

It’s designed for the Private Pilot VFR oral. Some fundamentals carry forward, but you’ll want dedicated IFR/Commercial materials for those checkrides. Please see our other offerings as we offer instrument flashcards with commercial coming soon!
